Are You Trying to Preserve the Church or Preserve the Congregation?
The congregation is the church, but a congregation can become so focused on preserving its routines, property, preferences, and existence that it begins functioning more like a religious club than a church organized around its mission. Sometimes preserving the church’s mission requires significant change in the congregation itself. The question is whether the decisions being made today give that mission the best opportunity to continue tomorrow.
Shared Space Is Not Failure. It Is Stewardship.
Church buildings are often underused while surrounding communities change and grow. Sharing space with other churches or ministries is not a sign of decline but faithful stewardship. When churches with distinct cultures partner in the same space, they expand mission, reach people they could not reach alone, and model unity in the body of Christ.
